Yokohama holds many of Japan’s firsts because it was established in 1854, with Commodore Perry arriving at the port. These include Chinatown, the Historical district, and Japan’s first foreign trading port. Furthermore, Yokohama is the second largest city in Japan, located only 35 minutes south of Shibuya, Tokyo! A bustling hub for high-tech businesses, Yokohama is a beautiful mix of a modern city with historical touches and luxuries like its parks and museums.
We start our package tours in Yokohama for good reason: It is one of the best cities in Japan for visitors to start exploring this culturally-rich country. Yokohama is a unique mixture of a foreign business district with a distinct, and somewhat subtle, American influence. This unusual blend is the main factor in giving our travelers a head start in feeling at home. Additionally, Yokohama is easy to navigate for people who enjoy a leisurely morning stroll, as well as for visitors who are looking to explore the city’s food scene.
We at Momiji Travel Agency chose Yokohama to be our starting point because it helps our guests feel as if they are living in Japan rather than simply visiting. This perspective offers our travelers a greater breadth of appreciation for the Japanese people and culture.

The Red Brick Warehouses of Yokohama are built on a foundation of tradition as a port city in Yokohama. As a cultural center and tourism attraction, they are a hot spot for shopping for unique souvenirs or even some food. They're a great location to enjoy local crafts and watch pop-up events showcasing traditional crafts or local events. Check out the Red Brick Warehouse events website before your trip!
Odawara is a quaint village in Japan that sports a beautifully restored castle, a ninja experience, and great local seafood. If it's a clear day, you might even see Mt. Fuji! It is included in certain packages for a day trip there. To travel there, you can take a bullet train from Yokohama or Tokyo. This is an uncommon stop for most foreign visitors!
